E-Dee revisits Dennis Brown’s “Revolution”

E-Dee- “Revolution” mp3

Here’s a faithful yet modernized version of the classic Dennis Brown hit, Revolution, as performed by young Jamaican star, E-Dee. This cover was itself a hit in Jamaica in 2007, and E-Dee‘s career continues to skyrocket. Based in LA now, this dancehall celebrity is taking Jamaican music into American contemporary R&B in big ways. This track is sweet, and as a long time Dennis Brown fan, I give it the big thumbs up! Check it.

Ma Rainey’s blues live on forever

Ma Rainey – “Slave To The Blues” mp3

Lately I have been diggin’ thru the crates at publicdomain2ten, finding some amazing old gems. K, so they’re not “crates” but the mp3s there are from gr8 old vinyl 78s and early, early 45s. Ma Rainey was part of a select few – the first generation of recording artists in history. Nowadays you get a recording studio when you buy a Mac. Back then by comparison, there were only a handful of recording devices in the world. One of them recorded this remarkable performance by “The Mother of the Blues,” Ma Rainey, who was also one of the first professional blues singers. By now, her influence is far too widespread to accurately measure. Have a listen.

Working For The Rat Race Again

The Specials – “Rat Race” mp3

As any ska fan is already aware, The Specials are back from a wee 30 year vacation to skank the world to bits again. This unique band played its first adrenaline-fueled beats in the late 70′s, as the last echoes of the Pistols faded from the scene. While punk had introduced dub and reggae – thru the Slits, the Clash and others – to a generation of English youth, it was this sharp dressed bunch from Coventry who dug deeper into Jamaican music roots, to serve up a fresh batch of ebullient and joyously rebellious ska music. Without them, ska may have never become the internationally loved genre it is today. Here’s “Rat Race” – from their 2nd album “More Specials” – a must have, and I don’t usually go on about about “must haves.” Enjoy.

Outdoor Miners sing the virtues of Twelve Hundred Dollars

Outdoor Miners – “Twelve Hundred Dollars” mp3

What would you do with Twelve Hundred Dollars? Buy a yacht? Trip to France? Wait.. $1,200? Two zeros? That’s really not much is it. I feel like Dr. Evil when he demanded One Meeellion Dollars. No, what you can do with twelve Ben Franklins is pay your rent. Here is a radio-friendly rocker lamenting just that. Outdoor Miners outta Edmonton, Canada on Pop Echo Records, rockin’ the 80′s twinged moody pop. Enjoy.

Music is my passion, and I bask in its sonic glow everyday. There has been so much stupendous music made recently, regardless of the shriveling record industry.

This GR8 music has somehow been ignored and relegated to a second-class status it honestly doesn’t deserve. Being the uber-fan that I am, I found it necessary to blog about this attention-worthy music. Because of my immense passion, I feel like it’s my sole responsibility to take you directly to as much of this music as I can find. I just want to share the fun with fellow music lovers, while helping the music creators.

I have found a free legal MP3 download for each song I post. The artist approves of the free download. These artists hope you like their music enough to buy some. If you don’t, the artist still thanks you for taking the time to listen to their music.

Makes sense, right?

So I’m Superfan.

I give you a link to free legal MP3s, and I get to help spread the word for artists.

If you don’t find any music you love, you’ll get your money back. Guaranteed!

Dan Della Ripa, AKA Subverse

From the time I discovered there was a world of great music seething beyond my brother’s record collection, I have spent the majority of my energy exploring music that is new to me. I grew up listening to hip-hop, electronic and jazz. By the time I was 14 I started bedroom DJing. During high school I started my perpetual mixtape quest. Eventually I amassed enough gear and dirty-used records to turn what should have been a laundry room into a home studio. Two of my songs where deemed worthy enough to be included in Fun Fun Fun Recording’s Mp3 Jackpot Winners Vol. 1“Meditations (by a father)” and “Sick“. It was during that exciting time that I first heard of the MP3 format. I immediately saw how artists like myself would be able to exploit the new technology as a vehicle for delivering music straight to music lovers. Subverse2ten is the latest medium that I use for discovering, filtering and distributing new music to music fans who find themselves always slightly ahead of the curve. I still hold the same enthusiasm and love of new music as I did when I was a kid. I hope you enjoy the music you find here as much as I do.

Survival Oakland

www.survivaloakland2ten.com In a time and place where virtual hustle has devolved into clicks, plays and arbitrary photos of youngsters portraying something they’re NOT, Survival’s blog serves as ground zero for post-modern metalism. Metalism, that sonic punch that, when it hit, you missed. Then when it hit again, you still missed.

Instead of adding this site to your friend’s list and continuing some miniscule internet existence in a virtually impoverished ghetto of media, just hit up this page to hear some of the heaviest, crunchiest shit that indies, majors, and nobodies are offering in the Bay, the Nation, and Beyond – for Free.

Survival is a speed, thrash, groove, power, sex, pain metal group from the Bay Area started in 2009.

The style grows from the classic bay area speed metal sound, but with more eccentric and enigmatic energy to bruise your receptors.

Visit Survival on myspace or IMEEM for shows, merch, and updates.
