MC Homeless & zoen – “Sophia Lauren (Moshe Remix)” mp3
Titles, names. I love good song titles and artist names. As names go, there isn’t a more sensual and evocative set of syllables than “Sophia Lauren.” Say it aloud, fast or slow, you can’t not feel sexy saying that name. An indelible image of her gloriously sunglassed face is conjured. That is not what this song is about. MC Homeless, now that’s a name that gives you a clue. In deliberate and jagged contrast to the shallow materialism of commercialized rap, MC Homeless observes aloud the infested underside of glitz and glamour, populated with desperate, frail, and imperfect humans. From the bleak economic ruins of Youngstown, Ohio, here is the articulate and lyrically fearless MC Homeless, joined on this track by French hip-hop artist zoen. There’s no end to the myriad expositions of rappers detailing how they are better than the other rappers, and how the others suck. It’s all fun, really, as long as no one takes it way too seriously, and it provides a stage for all manner of lyrical gymnastics. I knew something was about to go down when I read the titles here – both of the song “Bully Rappers” and the album, “Lobotomy Music.” Living up to all of it, Short Fuze, Nasa, Eleven, Passive 65ive and Karniege each step up to the mic and testify over a tough beat and soothing flute tapestry. I am liking on it.

Str8 up hip-hop from Sev Statik and crew, from Albany, NY. Some really sweet loops here and a body rockin’ beat, over which Sev and Braille drop fresh niblets o’ lyrical wisdom. The chorus is brilliant and the verses made me LOL. Not a second is wasted in this relaxed yet densely packed slab o’ hip-hop wax. I likes it.
