Tokyo Sex Destruction – “The Sounds From Your Soul” mp3
Another soulful hard rocker from Tokyo Sex Destruction (from Spain, don’t you know). Drawing inspiration from the 80’s punk-funk of Gang Of Four (haven’t they become a major influence on contemporary music!) and other more rootsy elements like The Zombies and The Stones, they manage to produce a sound of their own, and it rocks. “The Sounds from Your Soul” baby. Hit it and quit it.

The Modern aka Matinee Club – “Discotheque Francais Spektrum 12i Mix”
The Modern aka Matinee Club delivers a most decadent pastry of disco new wave booty worship, in Discotheque Francais. It may be odd to talk about an “old school vocoder” track, but that’s what it is now, babies. What’s old is new and what’s new is older, or as the Buzzcocks once so eloquently put it, we are, “surfing on a wave of nostalgia for an age yet to come.” Lovely straight up female and male lead vox as well, with analog-y glitchy synth-y bon-bons melting about. This music presents a revisionist glance at how disco in the future would look, if today we’re 1978! Got it? Good. It makes sense, really. Plus, I love this track. Very sexy, groovy, indie dance floor fun. Enjoy. But if you get your hair “feathered,” I cannot be held not responsible.

Seaspin – “Love Is A Fable”
Pitch bending a guitar amp’s noise makes a nice start to a thoroughly enjoyable grunge pop rocker with a sexy trippy female vocal. If “Love Is a Fable” then what is the moral? Well, the vocals and guitars on this track have such an orgy it almost doesn’t matter what the song means. Thoughtful lyrics though, too. Rock it.

All Time High – “Pollyanna” mp3
Pollyanna is I believe one of the best words in the English language. It’s a relatively new term, whose origin is simple – Pollyanna was the name of a child heroine created by American writer Eleanor Porter, who was optimistic and sweet regardless of whatever dire circumstances did beset her. Often used disparagingly, I consider it a virtue. Seattle’s All Time High has a thing or two to sing about the matter, in classic Seattle grunge rock style, in this wonderful bit of rock and roll philosiphizin’. Everything is gr8! Really.
