Seaspin Spins A Fable Of Love

Seaspin – “Love Is A Fable”

Pitch bending a guitar amp’s noise makes a nice start to a thoroughly enjoyable grunge pop rocker with a sexy trippy female vocal. If “Love Is a Fable” then what is the moral? Well, the vocals and guitars on this track have such an orgy it almost doesn’t matter what the song means. Thoughtful lyrics though, too. Rock it.

Jetty Boys will be fine. Really.

Jetty Boys – “I’ll Be Fine” mp3

From Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Jetty Boys play punky pop music like they really care about it, like the world simply wont be acceptable if they don’t. Clearly they love them some Green Day and Ramones and all, but they bring a ferocity and sincerity all their own that is endearing and infectious. Gr8 power-pop erupts from the suffocating boredom of a sleepy American town? But yes!

All Time High’s Pollyannish Grunge

All Time High – “Pollyanna” mp3

Pollyanna is I believe one of the best words in the English language. It’s a relatively new term, whose origin is simple – Pollyanna was the name of a child heroine created by American writer Eleanor Porter, who was optimistic and sweet regardless of whatever dire circumstances did beset her. Often used disparagingly, I consider it a virtue. Seattle’s All Time High has a thing or two to sing about the matter, in classic Seattle grunge rock style, in this wonderful bit of rock and roll philosiphizin’. Everything is gr8! Really.

Helplessly Smitten with Oh No Ono

Oh No Ono – “Helplessly Young” mp3

Helplessly, oh so helplessly young. Young Subverse clued me into this – said it sounded like early Blondie. He nailed it – this does remind of those wonderful power-pop new wave torrents of hormones that Debby Harry and posse unleashed in the 70’s. Shades of XTC and Go-Gos also color the proceedings. Comparisons aside, there’s a lot of gr8 new information in this slab o’ avante-poppe. It’s a bold composition, with a miles-wide chord progression for the superb lyric and melody to fly around in. The instrumental work is inventive and fresh, the vocals stellar.  Ace work from Oh No Ono, str8 outta Copenhagen.
